When automatic watches are worn for approx. 12-14 hours a day, they do not need to be wound by hand. The rotor turns as a result of arm movements and thus tensions the mainspring. If the watch is taken off at night, it continues to run, but is not wound, as it is not moved. Only if it is not worn for approx. 40 hours does it stop (standard movements). Cal. 400+ movements have a power reserve of 120 hours (5 days), and Cal. 110+ movements have a power reserve of 240 hours (10 days). Before using watches with a power reserve of 5 or 10 days for the first time, they should still be fully wound in order to build up a power reserve.
If the watch is automatically wound, it should be set in motion as follows:
- If present, open the screw-down crown or QLC crown.
- Turn the crown in position 1 clockwise for one minute (you can also turn it back and forth). For Cal. 400+, 210 complete turns of the crown are required for full winding.
- Make the remaining settings, such as date and time.
- If present, close the screw-down crown or QLC crown.
