The term regulator refers to the display of the hours, minutes and seconds, which are separate from each other. The separate displays mean that the hands do not obscure each other, making it possible to read the time accurately. In the past, regulator watches were particularly accurate and were used as a guide for setting the time. The crown is operated and the time and date set as described here.
